This project began from a simple idea: the publication of an album with 200 buildings from Athens, on the occasion of the celebration of the 200-year anniversary from the Greek War of Independence of 1821. Notable constructions from the last two hundred years are, of course, numerous, so all a photographer would have to do would be to click with his camera on two hundred buildings. Each photo would be worth a thousand words. The commemorative album would be "ready". Still, anyone involved with books and editions is well aware that millions of words must first be read before a particular photo can convey the essence of its meaning. The initial idea was, therefore, to complete the album with introductory texts from 'experts' which could activate and deepen the reader's gaze upon the buildings. The album was also enriched by descriptions for every building, so that each picture could be accompanied by a short explanation. A simple idea began to gain complexity.

Ο Μανώλης Αναστασάκης είναι αρχιτέκτων DESA (1983) με πλούσιο μελετητικό έργο, διακρίσεις και δημοσιεύσεις. Στον εκπαιδευτικό τομέα έχει σχεδιάσει 42 σχολικές βιβλιοθήκες, 24 σπουδαστήρια (βιβλιοθήκες μικρότερων απαιτήσεων) και 30 εργαστήρια φυσικών επιστημών. Έχει ακόμα σχεδιάσει το Πειραματικό Σχολείο στην Παν/πολη Ρεθύμνου, ένα συγκρότημα 20.000 τ.μ. το οποίο περιλαμβάνει από Νηπιαγωγείο έως Λύκειο. Διατηρεί αρχιτεκτονικό γραφείο στην Αθήνα και διδάσκει αρχιτεκτονική εσωτερικού χώρου στο τμήμα Διακοσμητικής του ΤΕΙ Αθήνας.
