Η Φ. Χ. Μπαρνέτ (F. H. Burnett) γεννήθηκε το 1849 στο Manchester της Αγγλίας. Ανήκε σε μια σχετικά ευκατάστατη οικογένεια με άλλα τέσσερα παιδιά. Μετά το θάνατο του πατέρα της μετακόμισαν στην Αμερική. Παντρεύεται τον Dr. Swan Burnett και αποκτούν μαζί δύο παιδιά. Ξαναγυρνά στην Αγγλία μετά το χωρισμό με τον πρώτο της άντρα, αλλά αποτυγχάνει κι ο δεύτερος γάμος της, και το 1890 πεθαίνει ο μεγάλος της γιος. Μετά το 1901 έζησε στις Βερμούδες και στο Long Island, όπου και ασχολούταν με την κηπουρική, τη θεοσοφία και τη χριστιανική επιστήμη. "Η μικρή πριγκίπισσα" κυκλοφόρησε σε μορφή βιβλίου το 1905. Συνέχισε να γράφει μέχρι το θάνατό της το 1924.
